MS Dhoni is a former Indian captain and wicketkeeper who is remembered as one of the greatest leaders in cricket history. He is the only captain to win all three major ICC white ball trophies.
Early life
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born in Ranchi on 7 July 1981. His father worked at a steel company. He was a football goalkeeper at school until his coach asked him to keep wicket in cricket. He worked as a ticket examiner on the railways while playing domestic cricket.
International career
He made his ODI debut in 2004 and became famous after a 148 against Pakistan in 2005. He was made captain for the first T20 World Cup in 2007 and won it. In 2011 he hit the winning six in the World Cup final in Mumbai, one of the most famous moments in Indian sport. He added the Champions Trophy in 2013 and took India to the top of the Test rankings.
He retired from Tests in 2014 and from international cricket in August 2020.
IPL
Dhoni has captained Chennai Super Kings for most of its history, winning five IPL titles. Fans in Chennai call him Thala.
Personal life
He married Sakshi Singh Rawat in 2010 and they have a daughter. He lives in Ranchi, where he keeps his collection of motorbikes and a farm.
