Deepika Padukone is an Indian actress and producer and one of the highest paid women in Hindi cinema. She is also known for speaking openly about mental health.
Early life
She was born in Copenhagen on 5 January 1986, where her father, badminton legend Prakash Padukone, was based. The family moved to Bengaluru soon after. She played badminton at a national level as a teenager before turning to modelling.
Career
Her first film was the Kannada movie Aishwarya (2006), and her Bollywood debut came a year later in Om Shanti Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan. After a slow start, she found her stride with Love Aaj Kal and Cocktail, and in 2013 she had four big hits in a row.
She later worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, and won praise for her quieter role in Piku. Recent hits include Pathaan, Jawan, Fighter and Kalki 2898 AD.
Work beyond films
In 2015 she shared her experience with depression and started The Live Love Laugh Foundation. She also runs Ka Productions and the skincare brand 82°E. In 2025 she was named in the Hollywood Walk of Fame class of 2026.
Personal life
She married Ranveer Singh in November 2018 at Lake Como. Their daughter was born in September 2024.
