Amitabh Bachchan is one of the most famous actors India has ever produced. People call him Big B, and his career has lasted more than fifty years.
Early life
He was born on 11 October 1942 in Allahabad, now Prayagraj. His father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a celebrated Hindi poet, and his mother, Teji Bachchan, was a social activist. He studied at Sherwood College in Nainital and Kirori Mal College in Delhi, then worked in Kolkata before trying his luck in Mumbai.
Career
His early films flopped, but Zanjeer (1973) made him the angry young man of Hindi films. Deewaar and Sholay in 1975, followed by Amar Akbar Anthony, Don and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, made him the biggest star of his time.
After a tough period in the 1990s, including heavy debts from his company ABCL, he bounced back in 2000 with Mohabbatein and the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Later films like Black, Paa, Piku, Pink and Kalki 2898 AD showed his range.
Personal life
He married actress Jaya Bhaduri in 1973. Their children are Shweta Bachchan Nanda and actor Abhishek Bachchan, who is married to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The family lives in Juhu, Mumbai, at the bungalow Jalsa.
