Priyanka Chopra Jonas is an Indian actress, producer and former Miss World. She is one of the few Indian stars who has built a real second career in Hollywood, moving from Bollywood hits to American TV and films.
Early life
She was born in Jamshedpur on 18 July 1982. Both her parents were army doctors, so the family moved often. As a teenager she lived with relatives in the United States for about three years before returning to Bareilly, India.
Career
In 2000 she won Femina Miss India World and then Miss World. Film offers followed, and her Hindi debut came in 2003. Aitraaz showed she could play a bold negative role, and Fashion (2008) won her the National Film Award. Barfi!, Mary Kom, Dil Dhadakne Do and Bajirao Mastani made her one of Bollywood’s most respected actresses.
In 2015 she took the lead role in the ABC series Quantico, a first for a South Asian woman on an American network drama. She later appeared in Baywatch, The White Tiger, Citadel and Heads of State.
Business and causes
She runs the production house Purple Pebble Pictures and the haircare line Anomaly, and has invested in several startups. She has worked with UNICEF for many years on child rights.
